There there were some issues getting the barrel blank and such, so mine took a little over 10 months. I have no idea what the current lead times are. I only have 80 rounds through it, but so far I am very pleased. I did get the 30/25 and have to say thank you for all the reports you made while working/fighting with your 300 OSSM. I am using one of C-Bass's modified Pmags, and may get an UMAR lower sometime in the future. I haven't found a load that I am completely satisfied with, but have had a few right around 1 inch that I plan to play with a bit more. Once I get some more solid info I will be sure to make some posts here about it.

YZ, with my 22 inch barrel Dtech I got a 0.7 group out of TAC and a Sierra Game King 165 HP. (I pulled that one shot to the right and called it a half inch right before looking at it thru the scope, the rightmost shot marked here). Not a barn burning velocity at 2765 fps @ 10 feet from the muzzle, but plenty for hunting! Note this was a very hot weather (100F) day.

Nice, I will have to pick up some TAC if my current attempt with Varget doesn't tighten up a little with some fiddling. I am not looking to get anything beyond what a .308 will do, if I do it is just a bonus. So far I have 165gr hornady interlocks over Varget shooting just under an inch. I am going to see if I can get that a little better once I get some more time.

YZ, just my experience, and I might have gotten a slow batch or something, but I have never had my bottle of Varget perform like it was supposed to. My best results uncompressed with the 30-25 has been with H4895, and compressed RL-17 and Big Game loads. I did my early testing with TAC, H4350, Hunter, Big Game, 748, 760 and Varget with 150 to 180 grainers , short ones of course, and I found that the Varget was almost as slow as the H4350, and dirty; I know it was supposed to be a great 308 Win powder but running 150s thru the 30-25 was disappointing. The RL17 loved compressed loads, as did the Big Game but not quite as fast for same volume, and the H4895 and TAC did best uncompressed, especially in the heat. In cool weather the W748 was awesome, but over about 75 or 80 and watch out; I have heard that the W ball powders also dont do well transitioning from a 75 degree sight in to a 30 degree hunt. I do not have data to support the low temp stuff but did manage to scare myself a bit in the heat with standard ball powders.

Hello,

While this is not my rifle, I had the same thing happen. OA fixed it no questions asked. I have heard of possibly 3 others out there where this issue has popped up.

The current barrel is a 1/8 twist

I do have some questions tho:

Could this be a result of a wet chamber where some CLP may have slickened up the chamber walls??

I still have the Upper, and well, it has only had about 10 rounds thru it after repair (factory 100 grain Power Points and some 55 grain BST)

I really want to get this rifle up to snuff, I am considering using it is some PRS matches. My current long range set up is a weatherby Mark V with a 27" 1-9 twist benchmark barrel. Chambering is 270 WIN.

My question regarding the 243WSSM is this:

will it hold up to a competition duty of ~200 rounds per weekend?

Loads would be either 105 Scenars, or possibly 105 A-Max, or maybe 90 Grain Scenars (depends on nose length and if I can get them to fit in a mag without any issues, I want to use a COALof 2.25 to 2.30.

that’s awesome!

I’m not sure if it could cause ‘the scenario’ (chain of events) that led up to the upper failing?

copy that … Q: what type of ammo was being used when the ‘WSSM’ upper-halve failed? and how many rounds were on the upper-halve, before it failed?

the Weatherby® .270Win. sounds like a nice rifle; what’s everyone else using in these types of long range matches?

Q: how often are the matches held per year? and how many matches do you typically attend per-year?

I handload for my 25WSSM … I use 100gr Nosler® Ballistic-Tip™

The ammo used when the KB occured were hand loads. 105 amax 42 grains of H4831 COAL 2.3 inches MV of 2930.

The rifle was bought used and then sent to OA to be rebarreled with a fluted 1/8 twist. That barrel had about 200 rounds thru it before it before the KB occured.

The 270 is a hammer! Pushing 165grain matrix VLDs at 2850. Most guys in PRS are using smaller 6mm stuff and 6.5 mm stuff.

Got into this long range game about two years ago. The 270 is solid to 1400 and the bullets transition well. I want something that uses less powder and is lightet. My 243 is sitting in the safe and asking to come play.

Most matches take 200 rounds, and I try to make 3 to 4 a year. So including practice there could be 1000 rounds thru the rifle in one year

I had to add weight to the buffer as the thing was over gassed and was tearing cartrige rims even with factory 100 grain. Loads.

I might drop pressure some and use H1000 but port pressure could get high again
