Sad to see them go..

Postby Caradepau » Thu Feb 23, 2017 7:09 am

Hello all.

Sad to hear Oly is shutting down by this months end.

Hope those guys have other ventures they can call upon (jobs). Too many have lost their jobs since that dreaded time back in 2007/2008, myself included.

It is not easy when your an aging and or non college degree holding person to obtain a decent job (both in what is expected of you and what your compensation is).

No one wants to be a "ditch digger" at age 50 unless he's hulk hogan and/or doesn't mind 10 degree winter days working outside or the scorching sun baking your brain.

I wonder if their tooling and/or design could be sold to another manufacturer. That would be sweet for them (gaining some revenue) and their existing customer base (longevity with their unique/propitiatory builds), and if sold in the vicinity, perhaps some employees could still retain their positions.

From what I've always read, Oly was a trusted and sought after name with pistol AR's. They worked well. One on the few to do 10mm AR builds too.

Good luck to the staff at Oly.

21 gun salute to you all!

Yes.

My chat with the Oly guy last week (2-24-17) stated that yes there is a buyer lined up. They want to focus on pistol caliber and some other calibers too, not just 5.56. But nothing is guaranteed (IF the deal will go through). It looks promising, they said. But until that fat chick bellows out a few chords, nothing is for sure.

And, possibly guys already working for Oly could stay on if they wanted. Not sure if the Oly name will remain, not sure if any warranty of existing items (parts or complete rifles / pistols) will be honored either.

I'd like to see at least some type of warranty for problem guns/pistols/parts. To get issues rectified in the same manner Oly has done in the past. That's a no brainer from a customer point of view, kinda a hard pill to swallow for a new owner..

Like if purchasing a complete BCG as a backup for your 40 cal Oly rifle, if it does not function properly, you'd be out of luck and out of nearly 155 bucks, if purchasing now, and later discovering it fails after Oly closes it's doors/new owner takes over. You should be able to send it in for free repair, but if the new owner did not yield any revenue from that sale, then how can he/she feel good about loosing coin for repairs.

I know when companies change hands, new owners often honor warranties/repairs of the previous company's sales.
It's good business to do so, especially since Oly has (had) a nitch with more than decent pistol caliber AR's, which do have a much desired following.

The difficult part is over, the engineering and testing of the design. All that remains is manufacturing and supporting the technology.
