HK/ AR.45 sbr new build

Postby Baltimoreed11754 » Fri Dec 02, 2016 5:06 pm

I decided that I didn't like my alternate 7.5 inch bbl for my SBR so I decided to see what I could do with MP5 parts. This is what 200.00 of demilled HK parts and 100.00 of machining got me along with some nice time in my shop. It still needs a plug for the rear of the rear sight and some black coating. Put 50 rds through it but had a few rds where the mty case didn't quite get out of the action. I think it will be a good zombie match gun once I get used to the drum sight. Up close and personal.

Wow. That's really cool.

A lot better than what I was thinking as I was reading the description.

I was thinking it would look like something off the fallout video games

The sights have been a chore, trying to get them correct for windage and then for the elevation as i fit the rear sight and piece of the demilled mp5 frame to the upper. Remove some of the sheet metal frame or the edges of the picatinny rail, shoot some, adjust the drum then do it again. I don't want to remove too much and then run out of adjustment. As I have it now its poi is just about the poa at 18 yds. I might have to install a thin spacer to raise the base and that will give me a little more elevation to play with. I'll carry it to my cowboy match Saturday to let the guys play with it some and get some imput. It's not going to be a target gun with these coarse sights and short bbl but should be a good Zombie Shooter Association rifle.
Carried it to my cowboy match, the real ex FBI officer shot it fine (used to the HK drum sights I guess) but for the others it shot low. I'm going to get a HK 93 rifle sight to try to get a taller rear sight. The number 4 hole should be higher than number1. Before It gets here I'll try to shim up the base on what I've got and see what happens.

The HK 93 rifle drum works ok. It raised the rear sight enough to get it on at 25 yds. My failure to ejects were due to a sticky extractor which needed a cleaning really bad. Other than some black alumahyde and the end cap on the rear sight base its done.

It's a lot of fun to shoot, double taps on my cowboy steel are a piece of cake.
