A Frustrating Day

Postby mark4Jesus » Mon Jul 27, 2015 9:01 am

Took my carbine out to zero at 50 yards Saturday. I was having a time remembering that at 50 yards a .40 is not going to be as accurate as a 5.56. Also, adjusting the sights on an AR-15 platform for a .40 does not yield the same results as when shooting 5.56. So, by time I took a deep breath and adjusted my thinking, I was out of bullets. I shot about 30 rounds. The front sight post was very stiff and hard to rotate, which added to the frustration level! When I cleaned it I put a few drops of Break Free on it and it loosened up.

I shot a 5in group at that distance, not as tight as I want.

After I got home, I did some practice sighting and realized that I also have to make some adjustments for my progressive lenses. I cannot hold my head in the same orientation as before, which is going to be a hard habit to break! I may have to go to tri-focals.

Father time is undefeated. I've been wearing glasses/contacts since the third grade and now that I'm knocking on 4o years old it looks like I'm going to need to get reading glasses too whenever I'm wearing contacts.

Can't win. I'd really like to get Lasik (spelling?) surgery for permanent correction. I've heard good things about it.

I have been married 28 years and my wife does not want me to get the surgery. She is too used to me in glasses! I have wore glasses since I was 4, but the progressives have a narrower focus field than bi/tri-focals. But such is life! I have a Century Arms C308 coming in Friday and I hope to take it to the range Saturday. I will take the carbine back and make some adjustments.

While I was shooting the carbine, a guy with TN Homeland Security saw it and said he was going to try to find him one!

My wife said the same thing when I got contact lenses. And then for about a month after, "you look funny without your glasses". AFter about a year passed, whenever I take them out and wear glasses around the house she says, "you look funny in your glasses". I guess it's all in what they get used to.

Saturday I shot my new Century Arms C308

I used ear plugs instead of muffs and that helped. When I shoot my carbine next, I will use ear plugs. I believe the muffs are one reason that I had a difficult time getting my glasses in the right place to focus on the front post.

I hope to get out this week or weekend to shoot both! However, bullets are gettin' expensive!

and this is why I've only shot my 7.62x54r for the past 5-6 years now; as that hard hitting ammunition is still 0.20 per round. :thumbs up:
