AR .45 with FCH done

Postby Baltimoreed11754 » Tue Feb 24, 2015 7:28 am

Finally have my AR.45 with my redesigned forward charging handle done except for alumahyde on the bare metal. I had to modify the return spring guide as it was binding the operating rod and barrel nut. I also removed another divider between the slots on the forearm and changed the return spring which gives me enough movement to eject rounds. So far the SBR is 100% reliable. Will post photos of it in operation when the weather breaks. I've shot a video but can not get it to upload here so I put it on you tube.

I got it to post for you Ed, and like I said in the PM, it’s just has to be a direct link to the video, as the OA2 ‘YouTube code' will only imbed the video, if the code is correct.

and that’s a really nice conversion you have there, very innovative

The oly upper was lost by a make believe gunsmith so I replaced it with a DPMS slickside upper. The bcg and bbl were not lost and are oly parts. After the SBR with side charging handle build fell through I decided to cut my own bbl and build my own designed FCH. Other than some paint, it's done. Next project is my extra recoil spring spacer/buffer idea.

So you transferred the Oly ejector spring assembly over to the new upper?

I went on line and found the dimensions and location of the 3 holes but I cheated as I had another dpms that oly had installed their ejector on. I ordered a ejector kit from oly. By the way, they won't work on other peoples uppers now so I bought a Wheeler upper/ pic rail vise block and used the one upper as a pattern to line up my holes and then just swapped out uppers and drilled. I used the vise and a Dremel cutter to cut the relief on the inside on the upper. I do love my big drill press. I came out ahead as the tool was cheaper than what they charged to do the work. I must have done it right cause it works.

at one time, I had a homemade drawing for the location of the 'e-spring' ... I can't find it now, but I know it's out there on the web; that's where I found it too.
