New Oly mags

Postby pat » Wed Jan 19, 2011 4:41 pm

I didn't even know the new oly mags existed until I stumbled upon them on MidwayUSA's site the other day. I've been using an SNS magblock with modified Sten mags, and was never quite satisfied having to use all the extra parts. The upper is 9mm btw.

I haven't had a chance to try them on the range yet, but I can't load them to capacity and need to find a loader that will work.

The other thing that bothers me is that the bolt catch on the lower I use is a bit snug and the oly mag springs aren't strong enough to push it up consistently. I do use padded channellock pliers to press in roll pins sometimes, so I might have squeezed the ears in a bit. I'll probably tear it apart sometime and file the bolt stop a little thinner so it pivots easier. 5.56 milspec mags will work the catch properly...

Has anyone else had an issue with the bolt hold open not working?

I can't just switch lowers either without buying another tax stamp:

That's an Oly 9mm upper shortened to around 4.5" with an SWR Trident can on an Ameetec lower, with both appropriate tax stamps.

hi Pat, and welcome to OA2.org

I too use SNS® mag-block on my OA® K9 carbine.

I have (1) of the ‘New’ mag, and I can’t load it to capacity either.

I have not ranged my new magazine yet.

sounds like an option.

I don't have a 9mm AR, but I wanted to say that I like how the area over the barrel (behind the suppressor and under the forend) appears as a single solid piece. Kind of like an SD style upper.

I've seen a ton of suppressed SBR uppers that are open behind the suppressor and I always thought that looked gawky and incomplete.

Just FWIW, I did my suppressed 22 upper the same way as yours appears and I like the seamless 1 piece design look personally.
