3" #4 buckshot?

Postby Uberschprung » Tue Jan 14, 2014 12:48 pm

I'm having a real hard time finding 3" #4 buckshot. It's all 2 3/4. You know of any brands that make 3" #4 buckshot?

Midway carries 12 ga, 3", #4 buckshot in >>Remington Lead<< (Currently out of stock), >>Federal Copper Plated<< (Currently out of stock), >>Federal Lead<< (In stock!)

Availability is a bit of an issue right now, but it can be found!

Typical Remington ammo. Works fine, every time, nothing special.

Just curious concerning the reason for the 3" shell specification and hoped that we'd share some thinking on best choice of shotgun ammo here. I'm not a hunter but cautiously assume that 2 3/4" #4 buck is the best for defense mainly because it should provide for better muzzle control and perhaps less inadvertent penetration in a HD scenario. Initial testing in my newly acquired Molot VEPR 12 over several range sessions suggests a palpably increased level of control when using 2 3/4" #4 v. 3" shells with remarkably little muzzle flip noted when a compensator is mounted. I'm a shotgun novice but thus far Hornady 2 3/4 #4 buck Varmint Express is at the top of my list.

Thoughts and advice welcomed...

Hey critterdc, your right about 2 3/4, it's better for HD. Only reason I want 3" is for more volume of buckshot when I'm hunting.
